Job Description

Responsible for assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to patient charts of moderate to high complexity, the full-time Remote Outpatient Acute Care Coder - Emergency will ensure accurate coding, billing, and compliance using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. Key responsibilities Review hospital outpatient medical documentation to assign and validate appropriate codes for outpatient encounters Utilize 3M encoder to analyze coding edits and Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APC) for compliance with medical necessity Assign Physician E/M levels and charges for relevant procedures performed in various settings Required qualifications One to three years of experience in medical record coding in an acute care setting High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor's degree in Health Information or related field is preferred AHIMA or AAPC certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CIRCC, or COC is required Functional knowledge of EMR systems and coding software, particularly 3M360 Comprehensive understanding of coding guidelines and regulations, including UHDDS and CCI Edits
