To support accurate coding and abstracting of medical records, the full-time California Licensed Outpatient Coder will review diagnoses and procedures for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely. Key responsibilities Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems Verify and abstract data from medical records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and coding standards Interact with physicians to clarify documentation and ensure accurate coding of patient information Required qualifications Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and current coding conventions Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test Demonstrated knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies relevant to outpatient services
