Responsibilities
The HIM coder is responsible for computer abstraction of inpatient and outpatient discharged patient records, providing documentation review, coding, and data abstracting of medical service documentation to ensure that Centennial Peaks Hospital receives appropriate reimbursement, conforms to applicable guidelines and regulations, and builds rapport and a cooperative relationship with providers.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. RHIT Associate (AA) Degree or Certified Coding Specialist, preferred coding certification from AHIMA.
2+ years’ experience as a medical coder and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Behavioral health coding experience preferred.
Work experience in Health Information Management and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to navigate coding system(s) 3M Encoder and Hybrid Medical.
