Job Requirements / Qualifications - High school diploma required (must be submitted with application)
- Minimum 2 years of professional medical coding experience; orthopedic surgery coding strongly preferred
- Preferred specialty certification: AAPC Orthopedic Coding Specialist (COSC) or CPC/CPC-A
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and AMA CPT coding guidelines
- Strong proficiency with EPIC EMR and common coding software/tools
- Ability to achieve and maintain high productivity and accuracy in coding high-dollar accounts
- Must reside in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, or New Mexico during the contract
- Online certification verification required with submission
- Ability to work full-time, on-site for the contract duration
- Required equipment: laptop and two monitors for daily work
Key Responsibilities - Orthopedic Medical Coding - Perform accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT coding for orthopedic inpatient and outpatient encounters
- Primary focus on designated high-dollar and specialty orthopedic accounts while maintaining productivity targets
- Review clinical documentation, operative reports, imaging, and diagnostic results to ensure coding accuracy and clinical validity
- Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% or better
- Abstract, verify, and update patient demographic and physician information in the electronic medical record (EPIC)
- Apply Official ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and AMA CPT Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
- Collaborate with HIM, Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) specialists, and providers to resolve documentation gaps and support clinical validation
- Support departmental needs and cross-cover coding areas as required
