Inpatient Rehab (IRF PAI) Coder
We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Rehab (IRF PAI) Coder to join a highly specialized team. This role focuses on coding complex inpatient rehabilitation cases, requiring strong knowledge of IRF-PAI, CMG methodologies, and IRF PPS guidelines. Coders will manually abstract data from extensive medical records and work closely with clinical teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assign IRF-PAI codes, Impairment Group Codes (IGCs), and Case Mix Groups (CMGs)
- Review and code large, complex inpatient rehab charts (90–100+ pages)
- Apply IRF PPS guidelines and differentiate from DRG/PCS methodologies
- Analyze documentation including OT, PT, and ST notes
- Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards
- Maintain productivity of 4–5 charts per day with 95% accuracy
- Collaborate with team members and participate in ongoing training
Qualifications:
- Experience with Inpatient Rehab coding (IRF PAI required)
- Strong understanding of CMG vs. DRG guidelines and IRF PPS
- Experience with complex cases, comorbidities, and multi-trauma patients
- Familiarity with Meditech Expanse and 3M/ Solventum preferred
- Must be comfortable with manual coding (no CAC)
- Certifications: AAPC or AHIMA (required)
Additional Details:
- Schedule: 40 hours/week, EST hours (flexibility after training; must maintain consistency, including weekends if applicable)
- Training: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST; 1:1 training lasting approximately 3–6 months
- Contract Type: Contract-to-Hire
- Equipment: Provided by client (dual monitors, computer, mouse, keyboard)
- Interview Process: Interview → Coding assessment (11 case questions, 1–3 hours) → Offer
