Medical Coder (Inpatient)

We are seeking Medical Coder (Inpatient) for a large healthcare system based out of Houston, TX.

This is a contract role for 13 weeks.

Summary:

Responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10-CM/CPT4 codes and modifiers for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. Accurately code conditions and procedures as documented in the ICD-10-CM & CPT4 Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Typically reports to Coding Manager.

📌 Key Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and modifiers
• Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory standards
• Abstract and input data for reporting and billing purposes
• Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and coding queries
• Support quality, compliance, and reimbursement accuracy
• Adhere to AHIMA ethical coding standards

✅ Requirements

• 2+ years of coding experience (E/M coding required)
• Experience in Neurology / Neurosurgery coding preferred
• Knowledge of HCC coding (preferred)
• One of the following certifications required:
• CCS, CPC, RHIT, CMC, or CCA
