Medical Coding Specialist (Remote)
LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking an experienced Medical Coding Specialist to join our client's team in a fully remote capacity. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of medical coding practices and hands-on experience with NextGen EMR. This role is responsible for accurately reviewing and assigning CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes to ensure proper documentation, billing, and compliance with all regulatory guidelines. This position will be a temporary role to start, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

In this position, you will review clinical documentation to ensure accurate code assignment, identify discrepancies, and communicate with providers when clarification is needed. You will play a key role in maintaining coding accuracy, supporting revenue cycle operations, and ensuring compliance with payer requirements and industry standards. Familiarity with insurance guidelines, auditing processes, and denial prevention strategies is essential.

Job Duties:

  • Review clinical documentation and accurately assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes
  • Utilize NextGen EMR to ensure proper coding, documentation, and workflow efficiency
  • Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with federal regulations and payer guidelines
  • Identify and resolve coding discrepancies, errors, and documentation gaps
  • Communicate with providers to obtain clarification and ensure accurate code assignment
  • Support revenue cycle processes by ensuring clean claim submissions and reducing denials
  • Conduct routine audits to maintain coding quality and compliance standards
  • Stay current on coding updates, industry changes, and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with billing, compliance, and clinical teams to improve coding processes
  • Maintain productivity and accuracy while working independently in a remote environment
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in medical coding
  • Hands-on experience with NextGen EMR (required)
  • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and healthcare documentation
  • Experience with coding audits, compliance, and denial prevention
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • CPC, CCS, or similar certification preferred
Position Details:
  • Remote position
  • 2 month contract role
  • Compensation: $23.00-$34.00 per hour DOE
  • Located in San Diego
  • Full-time, Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm PST
