Job Overview: Search Solution Group is seeking a Contract Certified Coder on behalf of our client, a non-profit healthcare organization. This role is responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for billing, reporting, and compliance purposes. The Certified Coder plays a critical role in ensuring coding accuracy, regulatory adherence, and proper reimbursement while supporting clinical and administrative teams.
Key Responsibilities: - Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and modifier codes
- Ensure accurate coding for outpatient encounters in accordance with official coding guidelines
- Utilize coding principles and APC reimbursement knowledge to support proper billing
- Extract and input data accurately into coding and abstracting systems
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and coding standards
- Communicate with providers and clinical staff to clarify documentation and provide coding guidance
- Participate in coding audits and quality reviews to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Support reporting, research, and data analysis initiatives as needed
- Stay current with coding updates, regulations, and continuing education requirements
- Serve as a resource, mentor, or preceptor to less experienced coding staff when applicable
Requirements include:Education: - High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate degree in a medical or related field preferred
Experience: - Minimum of 2 years of outpatient coding experience required
- Experience with E/M coding required
- Outpatient Neurosurgery or Neurology coding experience preferred
- At least 6 months of HCC coding experience preferred
- Experience with EPIC preferred
Skills: - Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and modifier application
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and meet productivity standards
Certifications: - One of the following required:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Certified Medical Coder (CMC)
- Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
Knowledge: - Knowledge of outpatient coding guidelines and compliance standards
- Familiarity with APC reimbursement methodologies
- Understanding of healthcare regulations and coding compliance practices
- Awareness of AHIMA ethical coding standards
