Job Overview:
Join our dynamic team at Allegheny Health Network as an Outpatient Coder, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy of medical coding and billing processes. This position involves a thorough review of medical records to extract critical data, interpret information, and apply appropriate ICD and CPT codes while also aiding in improving our financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and interpret detailed medical documentation and treatment plans to accurately assign ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures. (65%)
Abstract essential data for hospital and health system statistical requests, entering all coded information into our designated systems. (15%)
Manage medical information workflow efficiently, focusing on the unbilled coding report to enhance cash flow. (10%)
Stay updated with changes in ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines by attending training sessions and reviewing resources, implementing these updates in your daily work. (5%)
Perform additional duties as assigned or required to support departmental needs. (5%)
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Completion of coding courses covering anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
1 year of coding experience in hospital and/or physician settings.
1 year of coding for mid-level facilities or clinics.
Experience in coding major surgeries, observations, and E/M encounters.
Strong grasp of medical terminology.
Exceptional data entry skills.
Proficient understanding of computer applications.
Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare team members.
One of the following certifications is preferred:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
Registered Health Information Associate (RHIA).
Certified Coding Specialist Physician (CCS-P).
Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
Certified Outpatient Coder (COC).
CPC-A Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field.
