GENERAL OVERVIEW:

We invite you to join our dedicated team as a Lead Senior Outpatient Coder. In this vital role, your advanced coding expertise will significantly contribute to the optimization of our revenue cycle operations. You will be responsible for conducting thorough evaluations of medical records, extracting key medical and demographic data, and accurately applying diagnoses and procedure codes using the ICD and CPT coding systems.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform in-depth reviews of medical records, treatment plans, and outcomes, efficiently assigning ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures. (60%)

  • Abstract and manage crucial data elements to fulfill requests from hospital and medical staff, ensuring the precise entry of coded and abstracted information into designated systems. (15%)

  • Supervise medical information management practices to enhance cash flow related to unbilled coding reports. (10%)

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines through ongoing training and coding education, incorporating updates into work routines. (5%)

  • Act as a mentor and subject matter expert to team members, sharing valuable insights and best practices. (5%)

  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support team and organizational goals. (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • High School/GED

  • At least 5 years of coding experience in a hospital and/or physician setting

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in coding across diverse specialties and service lines

  • Comprehensive understanding of Trauma/Teaching/Observation guidelines

  • Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology

  • Possession of any of the following certifications:

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

  • Registered Health Information Associate (RHIA)

  • Certified Coding Specialist Physician (CCS-P)

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

  • Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)

Preferred

  • Associate's Degree

Pay Range Minimum: $23.03

Pay Range Maximum: $35.70
