We are currently looking for experienced outpatient coders to join our team. If you have a keen eye for detail and a strong grasp of medical terminology, this fully remote position with a flexible schedule could be the perfect fit for you!
Preferred: Experienced PRN Outpatient Coder with a minimum of 3 years in SDS and Observation coding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review medical records and accurately code diagnoses and procedures.
- Assign and sequence codes based on medical record documentation.
- Determine appropriate discharge disposition.
- Abstract and input coded data for hospital statistics and compliance.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for documentation improvement and coding discrepancies.
- Achieve a coding accuracy rate of 95% while meeting productivity standards.
- Track Continuing Education credits to maintain certifications.
- Attend educational meetings and training sessions provided by Datavant Health.
- Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment in your work.
- Collaborate with co-workers, management, and hospital staff to resolve clinical and reimbursement queries.
- Maintain professionalism, efficiency, and a positive attitude in your role.
- Adhere to ethical standards set by the American Health Information Management Association.
- Exhibit strong customer service skills, along with reliability and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Effectively manage complex work functions and decisions.
- Showcase excellent organizational and teamwork abilities.
- Comply with all HIM Division policies.
Qualifications:
- Certification from AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).
- At least 2 years of coding experience in a hospital or coding consulting position.
- Proficient in coding specialties including Same Day Surgery, Observation, and Injections/Infusions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent time management.
- Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
- Must complete annual Introductory HIPAA training and any additional required testing.

The projected pay range for this role is $20-$35 per hour, depending on location, skills, and experience.
