How you'll make an impact in this role

  • Perform complex abstraction of clinical data to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes, ensuring precise DRG and APC assignments for optimal hospital and ambulatory reimbursement.

  • Serve as a bridge between clinical care and billing by querying physicians to clarify ambiguous or incomplete documentation, ensuring the medical record supports the highest level of specificity.

  • Consistently exceed departmental benchmarks for coding productivity and accuracy rates, maintaining a rigorous standard of data integrity in accordance with internal policies.

  • Uphold the AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding, ensuring all coding activities strictly adhere to official federal guidelines and evolving reimbursement reporting requirements.

  • Conduct comprehensive chart audits to evaluate documentation sufficiency and coding accuracy, providing actionable feedback and formal education to physicians and associates to mitigate compliance risks.

What minimum requirements you'll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

One or more of the following:

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credentialed from the American Health Information ManagementAssociation (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentialed from the American Academy of Professional Coders(AAPC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

  • Coder obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

  • Reg Health Info Admnstr credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association(AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

  • Reg Health Info Tech credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association(AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

  • Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

What additional preferences we're seeking

5 years pro-fee surgical coding experience preferred.

Experience with gastroenterology and plastic surgery preferred.
