Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records and assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
  • Effectively sequence codes based on medical documentation.
  • Assign the appropriate discharge disposition.
  • Abstract and input coded data for hospital statistics and reporting.
  • Identify and communicate documentation improvement opportunities and coding concerns to relevant personnel.
  • Maintain a 95% coding accuracy rate and adhere to productivity goals.
  • Track and manage continuing education credits to uphold professional credentials.
  • Engage in Datavant Health education meetings and training sessions.
  • Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment in job performance.
  • Collaborate with team members, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement queries.
  • Operate with professionalism, efficiency, and a positive attitude.
  • Adhere strictly to the ethics code outlined by the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Exhibit a customer-service mindset, demonstrating professionalism and a commitment to ongoing learning.
  • Efficiently handle complex tasks and decision-making.
  • Showcase strong organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Comply with all HIM Division Policies.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • AHIMA certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC certification (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).
  • At least 2 years of coding experience in a hospital or coding consulting environment.
  • Proficiency in coding specialties such as Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions, Ancillary, ED coding, and E/M leveling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, along with excellent time management skills in a remote setting.
  • Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
  • Completion of the annual Introductory HIPAA examination and other required annual tests.

The pay range for this position varies based on location, responsibilities, skills, experience, and other role requirements, with an estimated hourly base pay of $20-$35 USD.
