We are seeking experienced outpatient coders to be key members of our team. The ideal candidate will have meticulous attention to detail and a solid understanding of medical terminology. This role is fully remote with a flexible schedule, enabling you to contribute to the healthcare revolution from home!

Preferred: Experienced PRN Outpatient Coder with a minimum of 3 years in SDS and Observation coding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records and accurately code diagnoses and procedures.
  • Assign and sequence codes based on medical record documentation.
  • Determine appropriate discharge disposition.
  • Abstract and input coded data for hospital statistics and compliance.
  • Identify and communicate documentation improvement opportunities as well as coding discrepancies.
  • Achieve a coding accuracy rate of 95% and meet designated productivity standards.
  • Track Continuing Education credits to maintain certifications.
  • Attend educational meetings and in-service training provided by Datavant Health.
  • Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment in your work.
  • Collaborate with co-workers, management, and hospital staff to resolve clinical and reimbursement queries.
  • Uphold professionalism, efficiency, and positivity in your role.
  • Adhere to ethical standards set by the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Exhibit strong customer service skills along with flexibility, reliability, and a commitment to ongoing learning.
  • Manage complex work functions and decisions effectively.
  • Showcase strong organizational and teamwork capabilities.
  • Comply with all HIM Division policies.

Qualifications:

  • Certification from AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).
  • At least 2 years of coding experience in a hospital or coding consulting role.
  • Proficient in coding specialties including Same Day Surgery, Observation, and Injections/Infusions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, adeptness in remote work, and excellent time management.
  • Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
  • Must complete annual Introductory HIPAA training and additional required testing.

The projected pay range for this role is $20-$35 per hour, varying based on location, skills, and experience.
