Full-Time Outpatient Coder with Sign-On Bonus

We are currently seeking experienced and credentialed outpatient coders who are detail-oriented and knowledgeable in medical terminology. This fully remote position offers a flexible schedule, enabling you to contribute to the future of healthcare from the comfort of your home!

Preferred Qualifications: We are particularly interested in outpatient coders with expertise in Cath coding, Endo, Observation coding, and Outpatient Surgery. Experience with Cerner and 3M is a bonus.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records and accurately assign codes for diagnoses and procedures.
  • Properly sequence codes based on the provided documentation.
  • Determine the appropriate discharge disposition for patient records.
  • Abstract and input coded data for hospital reporting requirements.
  • Communicate opportunities for documentation improvement and coding discrepancies to the relevant personnel for resolution.
  • Achieve a coding accuracy rate of 95% and meet productivity standards as set by the site.
  • Track continuing education credits required to maintain professional certifications.
  • Participate in educational meetings and in-services sponsored by Datavant Health.
  • Exercise initiative and sound judgment in all job functions.
  • Engage effectively with colleagues, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement matters.
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions.
  • Uphold the ethics set forth by the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Display customer-service orientation and professionalism.
  • Handle complex work functions and decision-making processes.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures within the HIM Division.

Qualifications for Success:

  • AHIMA or AAPC certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).
  • Minimum of 2 years of coding experience in a hospital setting or coding consulting role.
  • Proficiency in various coding specialties, including Same Day Surgery, Observation, and Injections/Infusions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of efficient remote work and excellent time management.
  • Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
  • Completion of an annual Introductory HIPAA examination is required.

Pay ranges for this role will vary based on experience and other factors, with an estimated hourly rate of $20 - $35.
