We are actively seeking skilled and credentialed outpatient coders to enhance our team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and possess a profound understanding of medical terminology. What You Will Do:

  • Review medical records and accurately assign codes for diagnoses and procedures.
  • Ensure correct sequencing of codes based on medical documentation.
  • Determine the appropriate discharge disposition.
  • Abstract and enter coded data for hospital statistical reporting.
  • Communicate opportunities for documentation improvement and coding issues for follow-up and resolution.
  • Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% and meet designated productivity standards.
  • Track continuing education credits to sustain professional credentials.
  • Participate in Datavant Health sponsored educational meetings.
  • Exercise initiative and sound judgment in job responsibilities.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement matters.
  • Maintain professionalism, efficiency, and a positive demeanor.
  • Adhere to the code of ethics established by the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Demonstrate customer-service focus, professionalism, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Manage high complexity in work functions and decision-making processes.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Comply with all HIM Division Policies.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • AHIMA certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC certification (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).
  • A minimum of 2 years of coding experience in a hospital or coding consulting role.
  • Proficiency in coding specialties, including Same Day Surgery, Observation, and Injections/Infusions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to work remotely and manage time effectively.
  • Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
  • Mandatory completion of the annual Introductory HIPAA examination and other yearly assessments.

Pay ranges for this role may vary by location, responsibilities, skills, experience, and other requirements. The estimated base pay range is $20 - $35 per hour.

For the safety of patients and staff, many clients require post-offer health screenings and vaccination proof (e.g., flu shot, Tdap, COVID-19). Requests for exemptions will be handled case-by-case.
