Remote Facility Sds/Obs Coder

This is an advanced level coding position that codes and abstracts Facility Outpatient Same Day Surgery or Ambulatory Surgery & Observation records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement and research. Codes and enters diagnostic and procedure codes into a designated coding and abstracting system utilizing the 3M encoder, as appropriate. Meets quality and productivity coding standards and demonstrates the ability to navigate an EMR. Ability to code across all facilities.

Primary coding consists of Hospital OP Surgeries and/or Observation services, will also need to complete any NCCI Edits within EPIC as necessary.

Coding of multiple body systems surgical procedures or multiple length of stay observation services that may consist of surgical procedures.

Accurately assigns codes from the current Coding and Indexing systems for surgical and observations accounts, creates APC assignments while adhering to coding guidelines, regulations and compliance plan.

Accurately abstracts pertinent information from outpatient records into the designated computer system and utilizes reports/workqueues effectively for follow up.

Accurately assigns appropriate coding modifiers.

Understanding of coding edits and accurately resolves edits pre/post coding.

Ability to communicate well verbally and written, stay organized and demonstrate effective time management skills.

Meets quality and productivity standards.

Demonstrates proficiency of designated coding and abstracting system, 3M encoder, online resources and electronic medical record (EMR).

Ability to troubleshoot computer issues while working remotely.

Solid working knowledge of Google email, Google calendar, and Google drive.

Must have a High School Diploma; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Four (4) years recent acute care hospital Outpatient Coding specifically focused on Ambulatory Surgery and Observation and abstracting experience.

Recent Level 1 Trauma experience.

Demonstrate intermediate to advanced technical coding competency in ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HICPCS, Coding Modifiers and NCCI and Medical Necessity edits.

Knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and coding systems.

Experience coding for a large health system with a large case mix, including: Spinal Fusion, Breast Reconstruction and Joint Replacements.

Must demonstrate competency of outpatient coding guidelines and APC assignment.

Strong communication (written/verbal) with experience in writing queries.

Experience with Google Suite Applications and emails and troubleshooting computer problems.

Extensive knowledge with recent 3M 360 and EPIC software.

CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P Credentials required by client.

Experience successfully working in a remote environment.

M F 8hrs per day, 40hrs a week, during standard business hours. Flexible hours during training and prebill review process.

Pay Range: TBD based on experience but very competitive.
