Inpatient Medical Coding Specialist

Job Description

To support a growing team, the part-time remote Inpatient Medical Coding Specialist will abstract clinical information from health records and assign accurate ICD codes for inpatient psychiatric and PCS coding, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and standards. Key responsibilities: Abstracts relevant clinical information from health records and assigns principal and secondary diagnoses based on coding guidelines Assigns correct ICD-10-PCS codes and ensures adherence to coding compliance and quality standards Participates in team meetings and educational conferences to enhance coding skills and maintain current practices Required qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent, with completion of a formal coding program Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred Minimum of three years of coding work experience with a strong understanding of ICD coding systems Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology Intermediate computer skills and a commitment to confidentiality and compliance
