To support the coding department, the full-time Certified Medical Coder II will perform technical and administrative tasks including reviewing, abstracting, and assigning medical codes (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10) while ensuring compliance with regulations in a remote work environment. Key responsibilities Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and HCPCS/CPT codes for chronic conditions and procedures Review coding edits and apply necessary changes to code assignments, ensuring compliance with coding regulations Provide guidance to healthcare staff on current coding practices and assist in resolving coding-related inquiries Required qualifications High school diploma or GED; higher-level degree may be accepted Certification from AHIMA or AAPC is required At least 12 months of experience in hospital coding Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding Successful completion of the UNC HCS Hospital Outpatient Coder Proficiency Test
