Outpatient Coder | Remote Contract Opportunity Location: Remote (US Based candidates only)
Pay $30 - $40 per hour/ based on experience
Position Type: long term contract (W2 position) CSI Companies is hiring an experienced Outpatient Coder for a fully remote contract opportunity. The Outpatient Coder will be responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for outpatient diagnoses and procedures. This includes emergency department visits, outpatient observation services, provider encounters, diagnostic testing, and ambulatory surgery procedures.The ideal candidate will have strong outpatient coding experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to review clinical documentation and diagnostic results for coding accuracy and completeness. This position requires maintaining a coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher while supporting timely billing and helping reduce coding-related denials.The Outpatient Coder will also collaborate with clinical, billing, and revenue cycle teams to resolve charging discrepancies and obtain clarification regarding physician documentation.
Key Responsibilities - Assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for outpatient diagnoses and procedures
- Code emergency department, observation, provider, laboratory, diagnostic, and ambulatory surgery encounters
- Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results for coding accuracy and completeness
- Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher
- Accurately abstract coded information into electronic medical record systems
- Identify and resolve coding, charging, and documentation discrepancies
- Communicate with appropriate departments regarding physician documentation clarification
- Support accurate billing, denial prevention, and revenue cycle processes
- Follow applicable coding guidelines, compliance standards, and organizational procedures
Required Qualifications - Minimum of two years of outpatient coding experience after obtaining certification
- Active RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification through AHIMA
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines
- Experience coding outpatient hospital services, including emergency department, observation, diagnostic, and ambulatory procedures
- Ability to accurately abstract information into electronic medical record systems
- Strong analytical, organization, and attention-to-detail skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across clinical, billing, and revenue cycle departments
Preferred Qualifications - Three to five years of outpatient coding experience after obtaining certification
- Previous outpatient coding experience within a hospital or healthcare environment
- Experience working with electronic medical record systems
- Familiarity with billing and chargemaster processes
- Knowledge of denial management and clinical documentation improvement strategies
Education and Certification - High school diploma or equivalent required
- Active RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification required
- Apprentice certification statuses will not be considered
