Medical Coder - Inpatient

Job Description

Remote Navajo Area Indian Health Service

This is a fully remote role supporting the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, which delivers care to roughly 201,583 members of the Navajo Nation across more than 25,516 square miles of northern Arizona, western New Mexico and southern Utah. You will code for five Service Units Gallup and Crownpoint and Shiprock in New Mexico, and Chinle and Kayenta in Arizona from your own home office, on Government-authorized secure access. Gallup Indian Medical Center alone carries one of the largest outpatient workloads in the Indian Health Service, so the case mix is broad: primary care, behavioral health, dental, ancillary services and acute inpatient care.

Navajo Area Indian Health Service operates hospitals and health centers at Gallup, Crownpoint and Shiprock in New Mexico and Chinle and Kayenta in Arizona. Health Information Management at each Service Unit maintains coding currency, revenue integrity and clinical data accuracy in the IHS Electronic Health Record and the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS). Coding is performed remotely into RPMS/PCC with full Government-provided system orientation.

  • Contribute to the internal coding audit and monthly performance reporting cycle

Qualifications

  • Active AHIMA or AAPC inpatient certification CIC or CPC-H
  • Two or more years of recent inpatient coding experience including DRG assignment and MCC/CC application
