General Surgery Medical Coder

Job Description

To support a growing healthcare practice, the full-time remote General Surgery Medical Coder will provide coding and abstracting services for outpatient, physician, and emergency room medical records using ICD 10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding systems while ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and maintaining productivity standards. Key responsibilities: Review medical records to identify diagnoses and procedures, selecting principal diagnoses and procedures for accurate coding Ensure appropriate DRG assignment and abstract relevant information from medical records based on client guidelines Participate in team meetings and training, maintaining current knowledge of coding standards and contributing to coding education initiatives Required qualifications: Minimum of 3 years of experience coding General Surgery procedures, including Profee and Facility charts At least 2 years of experience coding Ophthalmology and Multi-Specialty charts Active coding credentials such as CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPS, CPT coding principles, and relevant regulations Proficiency in using coding software and tools, with Epic/3M experience preferred
