Van Buren County Hospital is seeking a PRN Inpatient/Outpatient Coder to support Health Information Management operations through accurate coding and abstraction of inpatient and outpatient medical records.
This position reviews EPIC electronic clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and professional service codes for billing, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Primary Responsibilities
Review and code inpatient and outpatient medical records
Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and professional service codes
Abstract required patient and encounter information into hospital systems
Review documentation for coding accuracy and compliance
Assist with billing edits, denials, and coding-related error resolution
Identify coding or workflow trends and communicate concerns appropriately
Maintain confidentiality and compliance with regulatory standards
Support HIM operations and additional departmental duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
RHIT licensure or coding credentials preferred
Previous inpatient and/or outpatient coding experience preferred
Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and medical terminology preferred
EPIC experience preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
