CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.Job Summary and ResponsibilitiesAs our Anesthesia Pain Coder, you will apply your senior-level expertise to meticulously code anesthesia and pain services, ensuring accuracy and compliance in a highly specialized field.Every day you will review documentation to assign appropriate CPT/ASA codes, consulting the CPT-4/ASA manual and established criteria. You will also collaborate with clinic supervisors, providers, and the Revenue Management team to resolve complex coding issues and questions, adhering strictly to applicable payer rules and guidelines.To be successful in this role, you will possess at least three years of recent experience in anesthesia and pain coding, exceptional attention to detail, a deep understanding of CPT/ASA coding principles and payer rules, and strong communication skills to effectively resolve coding challenges.Assigns appropriate CPT/ASA codes using the CPT4/ASA manual and criteria, and ICD10CM diagnosis codes to anesthesia visits.Determines time units, total units, and proper use of modifiers commonly used in anesthesia cases based on patient record documentation.Understands, retains, and researches coding and billing rules, regulations, and requirements, including reasons for actions on edits.Critically reviews all information to recognize errors or problems in coding, and runs concurrency reports for anesthesia time discrepancies, escalating complex overlaps.Maintains assigned work queues and coding assignments within defined processing timeframes, submitting appropriate queries to providers for clarification when needed.Follows established protocols to promote departmental efficiencies and timely filing of claims, possessing advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, terminology, and coding guidelines.Along with CO, KS and NM, this position is open to remote/out of state candidates residing in only these states:Alabama- Arizona- Arkansas- ColoradoFlorida- Georgia- Idaho- IndianaIowa- Kansas - Kentucky- LouisianaMissouri- Mississippi- Nebraska- New MexicoNorth Carolina- Ohio- Oklahoma- South CarolinaSouth Dakota- Tennessee- Texas- UtahVirginia- West Virginia- WyomingJob RequirementsRequiredHigh School Diploma/G.E.D.A minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in anesthesia and pain codingKnowledge of anesthesia coding and elements related to anesthesia claims, such as units of time and anesthesia modifiersUnderstand rules and regulations governing Medicare billing of anesthesia and pain servicesKnowledge of NCCI, ICD10CM, CPT, and modifiers pertaining to anesthesia and pain servicesDemonstrate knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiologyEpic experienceCPC or CCS or CCSP upon hire, Source: AAPC/AHIMACertified Anesthesia and Pain Management Coder (CANPC) certification within one (1) year of hirePreferredAssociate degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degreeCANPC, Source: AAPCWith more than 700 care sites across the U.S. from clinics and hospitals to home-based care and virtual care services CommonSpirit is accessible to nearly one out of every four U.S. residents.
