Job Description

Providing remote medical coding services, the full-time Certified Medical Records Coder will review and ensure the accuracy of health care provider medical records, clarify coding discrepancies, and maintain compliance with coding guidelines for the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center. Key responsibilities Review and correct provider coding for completeness and accuracy, ensuring compliance with VHA HIM Practice Brief standards Abstract and code medical, surgical, and administrative data from medical records while maintaining a coding accuracy of 95% or greater Query providers for clarification on ambiguous information and ensure all queries are resolved within 30 days of discharge or service Required qualifications Associate's degree in health information technology/management or related field; bachelor's degree preferred Minimum of three years of continuous coding experience in a facility with a comparable patient population Active certification such as RHIT, CCS, RHIA, or CPC Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and healthcare documentation standards
