Outpatient Coder / TH Medical Records Specialist The Department of Health Information Management at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Outpatient Coder / TH Medical Records Specialist. The successful candidate will: Report to the Coding Manager and Director of HIM Department. Abstract clinical information from the medical record and assign appropriate ICD-10 CM and ICD-10 PCS or CPT codes according to established procedures. Maintain optimal standards of coding and ensure uniform coding for compliance and reimbursement. Ensure the selection of accurate and descriptive codes from the appropriate classification system. Ensure confidentiality of data contained in patients' medical records. Analyze the information contained in the medical records to ensure that the most appropriate codes are used. Query physicians for the appropriate documentation. Work collaboratively with all departments and hospital staff. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications RHIA or RHIT or CCS or CPC coding certification. Ability to make coding decisions based on established coding guidelines. Must be able to work independently and be a self-starter. Preferred Qualifications BS Degree with related Health Information Management experience. 3-5 years direct coding experience in an acute care setting. #J-18808-Ljbffr
