Working remotely in a full-time capacity, the South Carolina Licensed Medical Coder will accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service encounters while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitating appropriate reimbursement. Key Responsibilities: Assign diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 classification systems in accordance with official coding guidelines Review and analyze clinical documentation to accurately abstract necessary information for code assignment Participate in coding quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy and efficiency in coding processes Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred Must be credentialed nationally via AAPC or AHIMA with at least one of the following credentials: CPC or CCS Minimum of 1-2 years of coding experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in an academic medical center or hospital environment Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding principles, guidelines, and conventions Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and encoding software
