Inpatient Medical Coder

Join a top ranked healthcare institution! TalentFish is casting a line for an experienced and certified Inpatient Medical Coder. This is a long-term contract role that will play a key part in supporting a large healthcare organization's medical coding operation.

The Inpatient Coder will ensure accurate and compliant coding of inpatient records, contributing directly to quality data reporting, reimbursement, and overall patient care documentation integrity.

What You Bring to the Role

  • RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS certification is required.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in medical record coding.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Proficiency with Windows applications, Outlook, Webex, and other relevant software.
  • Familiarity with the 3M Encoder tool is desired.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain focus in a remote, distraction-free environment.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal coding guidelines.

DRG Validation and Audit Experience is a Plus

  • Experience with MS-DRG and APR-DRG validation and inpatient coding audits.
  • Understanding of Severity of Illness (SOI) and Risk of Mortality (ROM) capture.
  • Ability to identify and resolve DRG discrepancies and documentation gaps impacting reimbursement.
  • Experience collaborating with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) teams and providers.
  • Familiarity with 3M DRG grouper and encoder systems.
  • Knowledge of CMS, UHDDS, and payer-specific DRG guidelines and regulatory standards.

What You'll Do

  • Assign ICD-10-CM-PCS and/or CPT-4 diagnostic and procedure codes to patient charts with precision and accuracy.
  • Abstract data and input information into 3M Encoder and Epic Systems software.
  • Complete UHDDS data abstraction as required.
  • Maintain detailed logs of work performed and submit reports as directed.
  • Ensure coding compliance with established regulations and institutional guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Compensation and Employment

This role requires authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship. The expected salary range for this position is $30 - $40 per hour W2, depending on experience and qualifications.
