ED/Outpatient Coder & Abstractor (Full-Time, 40, Day)

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES Ensures consistent and accurate coding and charging of emergency department (ED) and outpatient accounts through a thorough review of conditions and procedures as documented by qualified health providers in the medical record. II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS Seeing, hearing, speaking, finger dexterity. Frequent: sitting. Infrequent: walking, stooping/bending, reaching at and below shoulder level. III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions. IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE Current certification in one (1) of the following: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by AHIMA Coursework and/or demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathology. B. EXPERIENCE One (1) year facility coding experience. Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding. Knowledge of HIPAA and other compliance regulations pertaining to handling of patient records. Familiarity with using and navigating electronic health records, computer-assisted coding software, and facility charge capture applications.
