Job Description

Remote Inpatient Coder

The remote Inpatient Coder is responsible for assigning diagnosis and procedural code using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems and monitors bill hold reports. Serves as a liaison to Clinical documentation Specialists for ICD-10 inpatient encounters for accurate code and MSDRG assignments. Communicate with the Workforce Manager when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Extensive knowledge of 3M encoder, EPIC electronic health record is required. Must have a minimum 4 years recent acute care inpatient coding experience. Comfortable with hitting a 95% accuracy or better and hitting productivity standards. Knowledge of medical/surgical terminology.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School Diploma; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four (4) years recent acute care hospital Inpatient Coding and abstracting experience.
  • Recent Level I OR II Trauma experience.
  • Extensive knowledge with recent 3M 360 and EPIC software.
  • CCS Credential required.
  • Strong communication (written/verbal)
  • Must have experience in writing queries
  • Must be technically savvy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years academic acute care inpatient coding experience.

Working Hours Needed:

  • M F 8hrs per day, 40hrs a week, during standard business hours
  • Flexible hours during training and prebill review process
