Professional Fee Coding Job Requirements - At least 1 year of professional fee coding experience required; cardiology, cardiac cath lab, and/or vascular surgery coding experience strongly preferred
- Current CPC, CCS-P, or equivalent medical coding certification required
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, and payer-specific coding guidelines
- Understanding of E/M coding, procedural coding, NCCI edits, global surgery rules, and documentation requirements
- Experience coding diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures preferred
- Experience in an academic medical center or large health system environment preferred
- Familiarity with Epic, 3M / Solventum, and encoder or abstracting systems preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with on-site teams in a collaborative healthcare setting
Cardiology Coding Responsibilities - Accurately assign codes for complex cardiology and vascular professional fee services
- Review physician documentation to determine appropriate CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and modifier assignment
- Code office visits, hospital-based encounters, diagnostic procedures, interventional cardiology procedures, and cardiac catheterization services
- Identify coding opportunities, resolve edits, and support documentation improvement when needed
- Maintain compliance with coding guidelines, payer requirements, and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with leadership, providers, and internal stakeholders on-site to support coding quality and workflow efficiency
- Assist with denial management, coding quality review, auditing, and provider education as applicable
