Medical Billing Supervisor

Job Description

The Position Medical Billing Supervisor – responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the medical insurance billing functions and accounting/clerical staff for the Department of Health and Social Services’ Medical Billing Unit. This role includes assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of department‐specific patient accounting and billing systems, acting as the electronic health record billing liaison between the County and the State, and resolving technical billing problems in coordination with the claim management system and clearing house provider. Qualifications The ideal candidate is highly organized and detail‑oriented with extensive experience in reviewing, reconciling, processing, and maintaining fiscal transactions, accounts, and statistical data and records. A strong foundation in medical billing and a working knowledge of insurance and medical billing terminology, as well as fundamental accounting principles, are required. Applicants must be able to manage competing demands and multiple priorities while reflecting the County’s Core Values. Education and Experience Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a major in medical billing and coding, healthcare accounting, or a closely related field. Education must include healthcare industry rules and regulations and current procedural code sets and guidelines for medical billing and coding. Three (3) years of direct experience in medical billing and coding or medical accounts receivables, with at least one year in a lead or supervisory role. Licensing, Certification and Registration Requirements Possession of one (1) valid and current certification is required, such as Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Documentation Expert‑Outpatient (CDEO), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or a related certification from a recognized accredited college, university, or professional association. Possession of a California Driver’s License, Class C, may be required. Veteran Preference Points Eligibility requires at least 181 consecutive days of active duty and an honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions. Five (5) points are added for honorable or general discharge. For disabled veterans rated at 30% or higher, ten (10) points are added to the combined score. Preference points are only added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
