Job Description
Review clinical documentation and diagnosis results as appropriate to extract data and apply ICD-9-CM and CPT4 codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. Under the direction of Health Information Management (HIM) or supervisor of HIM, accurately code inpatient and outpatient conditions and procedures as documented in the ICD-9-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Resolve error reports associated with billing processes, identify and report error patterns, and, when necessary, assist in the design and implementation of workflow changes to reduce billing errors.
Key Responsibilities
Review clinical documentation and diagnosis results to extract data and apply ICD-9-CM and CPT4 codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance.
Accurately code inpatient and outpatient conditions and procedures, including diagnostic, therapeutic, emergency department services, ambulatory surgery, observation service, and behavioral health encounters, as documented in the ICD-9-CM Official Guidelines.
Resolve error reports associated with billing processes, identify and report error patterns.
Assist in designing and implementing workflow changes to reduce billing errors.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree from an accredited institution or completed education through an accredited agency (e.g., AHIMA/AAPC).
Two (2) years of progressive on-the-job experience in coding.
Understanding of confidentiality requirements and ability to operate in a PC in a network environment.
Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease states/processes, and pharmaceuticals.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Work arrangement: Hybrid.
