JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Responsible for overseeing the medical coding for providers in the medical clinics. Verifies that medical documentation and coding is in compliance with the CMS documentation guidelines as well as CMS, CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 coding guidelines. Responsible for all levels of CPT including procedures and surgeries as well as monitoring for missing and incorrect charges. Provides education and feedback to providers regarding their coding as well as answers multiple provider questions on a daily basis. Answers coding questions and issues for the Clinic Managers as well as helps the staff of the Regional Business Office with coding questions and insurance coding denials.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Regional Business Office Physician Coding Team is responsible for the accurate and timely coding of the Samaritan Health Services clinic providers according to all applicable guidelines with applicable federal/state rules and regulations.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certification status as CPC required.
Two (2) years coding experience in a physician office required.
Three (3) months ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding related experience, education or training required.
Experience or training in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required.
Experience or training in the following preferred:
Billing functions.
Functions of a Regional Business Office.
