Coding Endoscopic Procedures for the Gastroenterology Dept.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Abstracts relevant clinical information from the medical records. Assigns GI Procedural ICD-10 and CPT/CDM codes in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines
  • Maintains daily coding, charge entry, and reconciliation functions for all assigned GI Physicians, expecting 95% accuracy and productivity of 75 - 85 procedures daily.
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES needed in addition to Essential Functions:
  • Customer Service (patients, physicians, GI staff)
  • Billing Resolution Assistance to Patients
  • Organization of workspace
  • Charge Review assistance
  • Coordinating with HIM for coding/charging discrepancies
  • Covering for coworker(s) as needed
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED required as well as Graduate of a HIM or related coding program.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:
  • CPC certification required
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • 1-2 years of Physician Coding experience preferred
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • Knowledge of general computer skills: Word, Excel
  • Preferable billing system knowledge : Epic
  • On site coding
  • Hybrid scenario once fully trained
  • Full time M-F 8 hr day
