Coder IP/OP - Health Information Management

McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center is your community medical provider, serving the Willamette Valley and its residents. Position Details:

  • Hourly Base Rate: $30.43 - $38.73
  • Shift: Days, M-F
  • Shift Hours Per Week: 40 hours/week, 8-hour shifts
  • SEIU Local 49 represented position

Job Summary:

  • Abstract and code from all types of records, both inpatient and outpatient.
  • Provide accurate, timely and complete data for the hospitals patient care information system to support the quality assurance program, statistical and data collection needs and the billing process.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of the entire content of the medical record and assign diagnoses and procedure codes according to national guidelines for ICD-9-CM, and CPT-4 methodologies.
  • Select principle diagnosis according to the standards for sequencing of codes.

Educational/Licensing:

  • RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) with at least one year of current hospital coding experience is required.

Skills:

  • Must possess an in-depth knowledge and skill in coding with ICD-9-CM and CPT-4, medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology and disease process.
  • Must be computer literate with working knowledge of windows based functionality.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain high levels of concentration for extended periods of time.
  • Abstract and code from either paper or computer medical record correctly identifying principal diagnosis.
  • Assure that all abstract elements are addressed using quality assurance screens.
  • Adhere to provisions of compliance program.
  • Protect patient confidentiality.
  • Must have ten-key number pad skills for data entry.
  • Assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 methodologies.
  • Utilize reporting software to extrapolate abstracted data.
  • Assist with performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical records practices.
  • Work independently and utilize effective time management.
