Job Description

Location Gulfport Behavioral Health System (a UHS facility) is a 90‑bed psychiatric hospital located on the beautiful MS Gulf Coast. The hospital offers child, adolescent, adult, substance abuse, and military service behavioral health programs and treatment services, with inpatient and outpatient options. Position Summary HIM Coder/Technician – Join the HIM team and support the medical records department with coding, clerical, technical, and related support services. The position includes a $1500 sign‑on bonus. The role is in‑house and runs Monday‑Friday. Responsibilities Code, assemble, and analyze discharge medical records using ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPC guidelines. Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations. Maintain filing and organization of all medical records and health record indexes. Assist with Release of Information requests. Support other departments with retrieval of paper records and management of patient information. Multi‑task and remain well organized. Qualifications High school diploma or GED; Certification as Coding Associate (CCA) or Coding Specialist (CCS) required. Two years of post‑high‑school education or equivalent experience combined with medical records experience preferred; new graduates eligible. Prior experience coding ICD‑10 CM/PCS‑CM, CPT, and HCPCS in a health information management role preferred; experience in a psychiatric facility preferred. Must pass a coding test with a score of 85 % or higher.
