Job Description

Finance & Purchasing Dept PO BOX 1210 Shelby, NC 28151 Summary Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work processing ambulance information, generating various reports, and issuing permits. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Keying and coding ambulance transports with the correct ICD‑10 diagnosis codes and CPT codes required for payment daily by importing the run reports from ESO into our software system. Verify insurance sources to bill. Communicate with Cleveland County and surrounding hospices for hospice patients to determine the correct payer source. Communicate with various hospitals and nursing facilities to ensure proper flow of paperwork and maintain open lines of communication. File all insurance claims daily, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. Attend billing conferences to stay up to date with billing procedures and applicable Medicare/Medicaid/insurance laws. Ensure required forms are attached to records prior to billing claims. Prepare records and reports concerning the collection of delinquent and current bills. Compute figures rapidly and accurately. Deal tactfully and courteously with the general public in explaining collection laws and policies. Communicate effectively orally and in writing, including in Standard English and government accounting terminology. Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by work assignments. Education & Experience High school diploma or GED. At least 2 years of experience working with medical terminology, emergency medical services coding, or billing services. Certified ambulance coder certification preferred but not required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of compliance for billing to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and office equipment used in the preparation of office records and bills. Knowledge of North Carolina and county laws and policies concerning billing and collecting. Skilled in the use of data entry equipment, including computer‑driven word processing, spreadsheets and file maintenance programs. Ability to read and comprehend a variety of reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate instructions, assignments, and directions from superiors effectively. Ability to adapt to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress. Work Environment / Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, copiers, printers, facsimile machines, and calculators. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 5 pounds of force frequently. Physical duties are in excess of those for sedentary work; light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Work Location This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Remote or hybrid work is not available.
