Job Responsibilities
Responsible for outpatient and a little inpatient coding of medical records according to coding guidelines to ensure accurate and timely codes for bills to be processed. Reviews medical record documentation, assigns appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes, and investigates and resolves diagnosis coding issues. Assists in the maintenance of client billing records and statistics.
Principal Accountabilities
Assign codes in accordance with ICD‑10, CPT, and E/M coding guidelines to provide statistical information for research, reimbursement, and analysis of quality of care.
Investigate and resolve coding issues.
Act as a liaison between coding guidelines and codes.
Research and prepare bills for reimbursement for outpatient, physician offices, and charge backs.
Maintain account records, research inquiries, resolve inaccuracies, follow up on outstanding and open bills, and contact insurance companies and/or payers periodically for the current status of account.
Respond to questions from patients, insurance companies, payers, etc.
Assist with the preparation of accounts payables for signature and submission, and run status of collections reports on account receivables.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
AHIMA coding certification: Must have either a CCA or CCS.
Minimum 1 year of coding experience in an acute care setting or relevant.
Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, disease processes.
Proficiency in CPT4, E/M, ICD‑10 coding.
Preferred
Prior administrative or assistant experience.
