Coder – UMSA Admin Department Location: Uvalde Memorial Hospital – Uvalde, Texas Job Type: Full-Time Code with Purpose. Support Quality Care. As a Coder in our UMSA Admin Department, you’ll transform medical diagnoses and procedures into accurate billing codes that drive proper reimbursement, compliance, and overall care quality. Whether you’re certified or working toward certification, your attention to detail helps ensure patients receive the care they need without unnecessary delays. In This Role, You Will Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes to all diagnoses and procedures based on medical documentation. Collaborate with providers to clarify documentation and ensure complete, compliant records. Complete coding within four business days of service (excluding weekends/holidays) to meet departmental goals. Maintain at least 95% coding accuracy and adhere to regulatory and payer guidelines. Use electronic coding and abstracting tools efficiently to support accurate claim submission. Monitor workflow to avoid delays and notify leadership if work falls behind. Assist clinic staff by sharing coding updates and supporting process improvements. Perform additional duties as needed to support hospital operations. What We’re Looking For High school diploma or equivalent required. One year of hospital or clinic coding experience preferred. Certification (CCS, CIC, or COC) required within two years of hire. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and EMR systems. Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
