Inpatient Auditor – Coding Integrity Specialist

Job Description

Job Summary The Inpatient Coding Auditor will audit inpatient coders and offshore auditors to ensure coding accuracy standards are met. The position requires frequent communication with client teams and payers, and reports to the Huron Managed Services Domestic Coding team. Key Responsibilities Perform audits of inpatient coding to maintain a minimum accuracy of 95% for DRG and coding. Conduct quality checks and calibration audits on visits coded per client SOPs. Suggest process improvements and schedule calibration sessions with offshore team counterparts and leaders. Prepare audit reports, provide direct feedback to coders and auditors, and participate in client interactions and internal stakeholder meetings. Monitor compliance with coding guidelines and correct identified errors before claims are rebilled to insurance. Analyze audit findings and present clear, concise summaries to leadership. Use encoder software and online tools to assign ICD‑CM, ICD‑PCS, MS‑DRG, APR‑DRG, POA, SOI, and ROM codes. Apply coding guidelines from CDC, CMS, AHA, AMA, AHIMA, and client procedures. Identify hospital-associated conditions (HACs) and patient safety indicators (PSIs) that may impact quality data and reimbursement. Verify proper patient information and signatures on all medical records. Maintain professional and ethical standards, including CEU requirements and current knowledge of inpatient reimbursement regulations. Core Qualifications U.S. work authorization (permanent). Day shift schedule in the United States. 2+ years inpatient coding audit experience. 3+ years inpatient hospital coding experience. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, SharePoint). Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and quantitative skills. Excellent attention to detail and follow‑through abilities. Effective oral and written communication skills. Experience with data from multiple sources and revenue cycle systems. Team orientation and partnership mindset. Financial acumen and analytical ability. Ability to adapt to changing environments. Technical Qualifications Required Certifications: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP). Preferred Certifications: AHIMA microcredentials “Auditing: Inpatient Coding (AIC)”, RHIA, or other certification. Encoder experience (e.g., 3M/Solventum, Encoder Pro, Codify). Experience with Epic, Cerner, Meditech preferred. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Coding Auditing Productivity ≥ 95%; DRG Accuracy Rate ≥ 95%; Coding Accuracy ≥ 95%; Query Compliance 100% adherence to AHIMA/ACDIS standards.
