Job Description

Medical Code

We are seeking an experienced Medical Code with a strong background in infusions and injections coding. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in accurately coding complex infusion and injection services and will also be cross-trained to code all patient encounters across departments.

Our organization is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital with a robust and growing service line that includes an active surgical department, a full-service laboratory, respiratory therapy department, radiology department, emergency department, therapy services (Speech, Physical, and Occupational), three medical clinics, and two surgical clinics. As we continue to expand and add new services, we are looking for a team member who is adaptable, detail-oriented, and committed to coding excellence across a variety of clinical settings.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a medical coding certification program is required.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent coding certification required.

Experience:

A minimum of three to five years of experience in medical coding, with a focus on ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding. In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and healthcare reimbursement systems.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using medical coding software and electronic health record systems. Familiarity with Cerner electronic health record and 3M is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to review medical documentation to identify and resolve coding issues or discrepancies, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Additional Skills: A strong understanding of HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of computer, multi-line phones, and other office equipment.

Summary

The Medical Coder is responsible for accurately translating medical documentation into standardized codes for billing, insurance, and reporting purposes. This position requires in-depth knowledge of medical coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, along with a strong understanding of healthcare regulations and reimbursement processes. This position is for hospital medical coding.
