The Lead Medical Coding Supervisor is essential in extracting critical clinical information from various medical records and accurately coding patient files with procedural terminology, including ICD-10-CM and CPT.

In this significant leadership role, you will manage advanced administrative and operational tasks that require initiative and sound judgment. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring precise diagnosis-related group (DRG) assignments while analyzing, inputting, and overseeing critical databases. You will respond to internal inquiries regarding medical information, prioritize daily activities for the administrative team, and supervise progress alongside external vendors, all while functioning independently within established guidelines.

WORK STYLE: This is a remote position with occasional travel to Humana's facilities for necessary training or meetings.

WORK HOURS: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

Required Qualifications:

  • AAPC Coding Certification is required.

  • 5 or more years of verified experience as a certified medical coder.

  • Extensive knowledge of medical coding practices, including proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.

  • Proven ability to resolve complex coding issues effectively.

  • A strong commitment to enhancing patient care experiences in a health-focused environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • Experience as a subject matter expert (SME) in coding.

  • Familiarity with code edit-related denials is an advantage.

Work from Home Requirements:

Applicants must have a minimum internet download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps; a wired cable or DSL connection is preferred. Satellite, cellular, and microwave links may only be used with prior approval from leadership. Residents of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota working from home will receive bi-weekly internet expense reimbursements.

Humana will provide the necessary telephone equipment to support efficient job performance. A dedicated workspace free from distractions is essential to protect patient PHI/HIPAA information.

Interview Process:

As part of our hiring process for this position, we will utilize modern interviewing technology to streamline recruitment. Selected candidates will receive an invitation to participate in either a pre-recorded Voice Interview or an SMS Text Messaging interview based on their availability.

The pre-recorded interview will consist of answering a set of questions via your phone, taking approximately 10-15 minutes, while the SMS Text interview will prompt you to respond to questions through your mobile device or computer, anticipated to last 5-10 minutes. Your responses will guide the selection process for the next interview stage.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Pay Range: The estimated salary range for this full-time position is $53,100 - $72,500 annually, depending on skills, experience, education, and certifications.
