What We Are Looking For:
We are on the lookout for a Lead Professional Coder with a strong orthopedic focus, especially in spinal procedures. The perfect candidate will efficiently manage work queue volumes, address coding queries from physicians and staff on a daily basis, and act as a bridge between the client and the coding team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough reviews of medical record documentation to accurately identify diagnoses and procedures needing coding for professional fee charts, ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
- Initiate proactive communication with physicians to clarify code assignments when documentation lacks clarity.
- Remain knowledgeable about coding guidelines and reporting requirements, and escalate any concerns to management.
- Mentor and train new coders and healthcare providers, delivering continuous educational support to the coding team.
- Assist the coding manager with special projects and address unbilled issues as needed.
- Act as the primary resource for coding-related inquiries, providing timely responses to staff questions.
- Encourage personal and professional development by meeting mandatory and continuing education requirements, contributing to departmental goals that facilitate overall organizational success.
- Monitor and report on performance metrics, help develop departmental goals, and assess the attainment of these goals.
- Recommend and execute training initiatives to enhance team performance.
- Promptly report personnel issues to management.
- Support management in tracking staff KPIs, timekeeping, and scheduling.
What You Need to Succeed:
- A minimum of 3 years of professional fee coding experience.
- Supervisory or team lead experience is a plus.
- Coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA is required.
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- An Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 and professional fee coding guidelines.
- Robust experience in billing and managing denials.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills for data interpretation.
- Deep understanding of human anatomy, medical terminology, and surgical terminology.
- Effective critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of coding compliance, specialty guidelines, and insurance payer policies.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience in auditing.
- Experience in education or training.

This position offers a competitive hourly salary ranging from $25-$29.50 USD, which may vary based on location, responsibility, skills, and experience.
