Remote Medical Coding Specialist Position

This is a remote-based position open to candidates across the nation.

As a vital part of our organization, you will be responsible for the timely and accurate assignment of Evaluation and Management (E&M) ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes from both paper and electronic medical records.

About The Position

  • Conduct thorough reviews of medical documentation to accurately assign principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures based on a solid understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and pathology.
  • Review all relevant documentation, including discharge summaries, history and physicals, physician notes, and lab reports, to code diagnoses and procedures with precision.
  • Adhere to official coding guidelines to ensure compliance with federal and insurance regulations.
  • Sequence diagnoses and procedures according to clinical significance to guarantee suitable DRG, APC, or payment tier assignment for accurate reimbursement.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of coding prior to submission for billing.
  • Abstract essential medical and demographic details from records, maintaining data integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS requirements and that all medical records needed for coding are present.
  • Identify documentation discrepancies and create queries to physicians for necessary clarifications.
  • Utilize computer applications efficiently to complete coding tasks swiftly.
  • Meet and exceed both quality and quantity standards in your coding performance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of medical coding experience is essential.
  • Proficiency in Professional Fee Coding is required.
  • Familiarity with EHR systems is a plus.
  • Certification credentials may vary, but accepted certifications include:
    • Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Certified Coding Specialist- Physician-Based (CCS-P)
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
