Job Description Responsibilities Wellstone Regional Hospital is a -bed acute care facility located in Jeffersonville, Indiana and has been providing quality health care to the residents of Southern Indiana and the Louisville area since 3. Wellstone specializes in the treatment of adolescents, children, and the adult population. In addition to our inpatient services, we offer outpatient programs as well. Wellstone is currently searching for a Coder/HIM Clerk. Under the direction of the HIM Director, the Coder/Clerk will follow hospital, state, and federal rules on release of information, review requests for patient information, and determine if the release is valid. The role is responsible for the accurate abstracting and coding of information according to the current classification system. This is an hourly non‑exempt position. Essential Functions of the job: Assemble discharge charts for completeness in order for them to be coded Process discharge charts for completeness and place on the rolling rack in terminal digital order Pull and box charts to be shipped to Iron Mountain Assign appropriate codes to all records using ICD‑CM coding systems with at least % accuracy Finalize abstract status to release codes to the billing office within five days of discharge Query physicians for clarification when documentation is not clear Sort printed notes into correct units for delivery Assist UM, Social Workers, and others that enter the department with their needs Perform other duties as assigned/required by this position (preparing charts for audits and release of information) Qualifications Education : Medical coding certification and high school diploma or equivalent required. Experience : At least two (2) years of experience in health care information management/medical records and thorough knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Additional Requirements : Typing speed of at least wpm preferred. May be required to work occasional overtime and able to work flexible hours. Background checks, CPS, and drug testing are a requirement.
