What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
Utilize computerized encoders and related systems to complete the coding process
Apply coding processes across all facilities, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines
Maintain quality targets and production standards as per organizational policies
Accurately abstract inpatient accounts required for hospital reporting to various outlets
Author and identify physician query opportunities to clarify documentation discrepancies
What is Required (Qualifications)
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Formal education in Health Information Management or a related field
Minimum of three (3) years of inpatient coding experience in an acute hospital setting
One of the following credentials: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
Proficiency in coding software and Health Information Management systems such as Electronic Health Records (EHR)
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
Acute hospital coding experience preferred
Knowledge of coding audits processes and denials management
Educated in medical terminology, disease processes, anatomy, and surgical procedure coding
Familiarity with coding regulations including ICD10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and revenue cycle workflows
