Positional Overview
The Imagine Group is recruiting for a Certified Medical Coder on behalf of our client, a leading not-for-profit healthcare system, providing a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient services, rehabilitation, home care, and long-term care for patients throughout Western New York. In this role, you will be responsible for performing advanced and accurate coding of complex medical records using established coding systems to support proper billing, compliance, and clinical data integrity. You will collaborate with clinical teams and Health Information Management staff to resolve documentation issues, ensure adherence to coding guidelines, and contribute to quality improvement and revenue integrity initiatives.
Role & Responsibility:
Tasks That Will Lead to Your Success
  • Reviews and codes principal, as well as appropriate secondary diagnoses and procedures documented within the participant/patient record, ancillary reports/ record to justify treatment rendered to collect accurate participant data and to receive optimal reimbursement.
  • Communicates with the ordering physician and / or physician office when there is uncertainty in the documentation of the ancillary report or order.
  • Performs data entry of diagnostic and/or procedural codes into practice management system.
  • Reviews system reports for undiagnosed accounts timely. As well as following up with missing/incomplete documentation.
  • Review of ancillary dictated reports for completion of coding process.
  • Reviews and keep updates on all Medicare Local Medical Review policies for diagnostic coding for ancillary services.
  • Trains and mentor Junior Medical Coders as necessary.
  • Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities per facility, Health Information Committee and CHS policies and procedures.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, workshops and in-services as required.
  • Maintains confidentiality of work-related medical record documentation and conversation in accordance with hospital / department policy and procedure.
  • Corporate Compliance - Responsible for complying with Federal, State and Local laws, rules and regulations governing the organization.
  • Performs other duties as requested. Maintains a clean and safe work area.

EDUCATION
  • Active coding certification CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPMA or COC From AAPC or AHIMA.
  • Candidates are required to take and successfully pass HCS coding test.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 3 years professional coding experience required
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) or practice management systems preferred.
  • Maintains credentials by meeting AHIMA/ AAPC continuing education requirements.
  • Epic and Medent experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
  • Independent worker, able to solve problems and trouble shoot
  • Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems, medical terminology, and anatomy & physiology.
  • Must possess good communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships and to work productively with all levels of personnel including Clinicians and staff.
  • Client focused.
  • Accountability and results oriented.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Individual works in a hybrid office setting utilizing medical records, computers, electronic encoders, and reference books to assign appropriate codes for accurate reimbursement. NYS Driver’s license or transportation is required for occasional travel.
