Job Description

Department Overview: Join our dynamic team within the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine as a Critical Care Certified Medical Coder. This is an exciting opportunity to work from home after completing an initial onsite training period. While the majority of your work will be remote, occasional onsite meetings and consultations with physicians will be necessary.

About the Position: In this role, you will perform expert certified coding and provide essential administrative and project support within the department. You will analyze surgical and medical documentation to accurately assign ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS codes, while ensuring compliance and facilitating efficient reimbursement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze evaluation and management documentation, with a focus on critical care services and procedures.
  • Utilize your coding expertise to correctly apply ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS codes based on operative notes.
  • Review documentation to ensure accurate capture of all billable services.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and education to clinical staff about proper documentation and coding practices.
  • Collaborate with physicians and staff to resolve documentation issues that impact coding accuracy.
  • Conduct reviews of medical policies and coding denials to promote improvements in clinical documentation.
  • Stay informed about changes in ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding, as well as Medicare and third-party billing regulations.
  • Work closely with leadership to ensure compliance and accuracy of division charge tickets in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and update the Practice and Procedure manual on a quarterly basis.

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is required; Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) preferred.
  3. 5-7 years of relevant work experience.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

Physical Requirements: This position requires primarily sedentary work, with occasional activities such as carrying, lifting, or pushing objects up to 10 pounds.
