What We Are Looking For:

We are excited to find a Lead Profee Coder with a robust orthopedic background, particularly in spinal procedures. The ideal candidate will efficiently oversee work queue volumes, address coding queries from physicians and staff daily, and effectively communicate between the client and coding team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review medical record documentation thoroughly to accurately identify diagnoses and procedures that require coding for profee charts, ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
  • Engage proactively with physicians to clarify code assignments when documentation is unclear.
  • Stay informed on coding guidelines and reporting requirements, escalating any concerns to management.
  • Mentor and train new coders and healthcare providers, offering ongoing educational support to the coding team.
  • Assist the coding manager with special projects and address unbilled issues as needed.
  • Act as the go-to resource for coding-related inquiries, providing timely responses to staff questions.
  • Promote personal and professional growth by meeting mandatory and continuing education requirements, contributing to department goals that support overall organizational success.
  • Monitor and report performance metrics, aid in developing departmental goals, and assess goal attainment.
  • Recommend and implement training initiatives to enhance team performance.
  • Report personnel issues to management promptly.
  • Support management in tracking staff KPIs, timekeeping, and scheduling.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • At least 3 years of professional fee coding experience.
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience is a plus.
  • Coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA is required.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • An Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of ICD-10 and profee coding guidelines.
  • Strong experience in billing and handling denials.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, medical terminology, and surgical terminology.
  • Effective critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of coding compliance, specialty guidelines, and insurance payer policies.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience in auditing.
  • Experience in education or training.

This position offers a competitive hourly rate ranging from $25-$29.50 USD, which may vary based on location, responsibility, skills, and experience. To maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, many of our clients require health screenings and proof of vaccinations post-offer.
